Take up one hole more in the buckle if necessary, or let down one, according to circumstances; but on the first of January let every man gird himself once more, with his face to the front, and take no interest in the things that were and are past.

One problem with gazing too frequently into the past is that we may turn around to find the future has run out on us.
Never look back unless you are planning to go that way. No man is rich enough to buy back his past.
Take hold of the future or the future will take hold of you – be future wise.
Be at war with your vices; at peace with your neighbors, and let every new year find you a better man.
Drop the last year into the silent limbo of the past. Let it go, for it was imperfect, and thank God that it can go.
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover
What the New Year brings to you will depend a great deal on what you bring to the New Year.
Every year of my life I grow more convinced that it is wisest and best to fix our attention on the beautiful and good and dwell as little as possible on the dark and the base.
The bad news is time flies. The good news is you’re the pilot.
